Art opens up new worlds. The Visual Arts Section at the Goetheanum has developed an Art Study Year and an Art Intensive Week to show how this works. The focus is on perception, activity and the sharing of experiences.
A hundred years ago, in the New Year‘s Night 1922/1923, the First Goetheanum was destroyed in an arson attack. Events in and around the Goetheanum will be devoted to the commemoration of this loss. The building was intended as a response to the social crises of World War I and the needs of that time: a spiritual impulse for cultural renewal.
Artistic activity makes familiar with creative processes. At the Goetheanum, the art impulse also lives as a stimulus for tasks in agriculture, medicine and education for instance. An Art Intensive Week reveals approaches in architecture, painting and sculpture.
The Goetheanum is part of the Federal Inventory of Swiss Heritage Sites (ISOS), representing the Canton of Solothurn in the newly published list of 50 selected objects spread around Switzerland in the project ’The Magic of Beautiful Places’.
The Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland, was intended as a building that would inspire cultural impulses. It was erected during the First World War by people from seventeen nations. One hundred years after its destruction by fire in 1922/1923, experts are discussing metamorphosis as a creative impulse in architecture, sculpture, painting and glass carving.
One of the tasks of the Visual Art Section at the Goetheanum is to create and communicate art in all its visual, tangible qualities. Christiane Haid, the new director of the section, has appointed a team of artists in order to meet the needs of this broad professional field.
The Kunstmuseum Basel will present its workshop series ‘Living Archive’ at the Goetheanum on 15th June. Participation is free of charge, but advance registration requested.
